A few top officials can't go to a concurrence on the off chance that they ought to extend to non-Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) regions or build added substances to the present financial plan for publicizing, recruiting a salaried worker, or cutting costs with the goal that the clients and retailers who are value touchy won't be debilitated to utilize the item. As indicated by the contextual analysis the U.S. paint covering industry has three fragments. The littlest of the three with just 22% of the market is the unique coatings section. This gathering is especially utilized on things that may have extraordinary temperature variance or ecological elements. The center section with 35% piece of the pie is the Original Equipment fabricating (OEM). The biggest section with 43% piece of the overall industry is the design coatings utilized on homes, structures, mechanical structures and the sky is the limit from there. Industry deals for paint coatings in 2004 were around 16 million with anticipated that deals should increment in the following year. Breaking down the information mirrors that the fragment of Architectural Paint coatings and sundries have a solid situation in the business. This 12 billion or more gathering is required to develop more with the extraordinary interest of upkeep and fixes on new and old homes increment. In spite of the fact that its opposition, for example, aluminum and vinyl siding seems to have a grasp available however APC is as yet holding consistent. What's more, the do it without anyone else's help painters are expanding in prominence making the pattern fruitful and giving solidness in the market. The elective strategy in the Janmar case are having the option to exceed expectations their essence in the DFW do-it-without anyone else's help showcase. A con to this option is that numerous buyers select a store before choosing the brand. With numerous stores having more than one brand this may leave the customer an opportunity to buy a less evaluated item. It is regular for customers to buy from promoting they have additionally observed albeit a little rate. A genius would be the expanding of brand mindfulness. The expense to authorize this option is around $350,000 in brand publicizing over the present financial plan. Another elective which checks the past referenced option is to give an exceptional coupon in the paper. A con might be that in the hour of the web print showcasing is obsolete and seen as less powerful. The option is toâ hire another agent that might be forceful in the non DFW region might be a superior proposed elective. A professional to this option is the immediate expense in pay versus $350,000 notwithstanding the spending which the compensation is significantly lower in cost. The last option is to proceed with the present methodology. Group suggests that Janmar Coating Inc. should picked the last option with a curve. Keep everything the equivalent with little augmentations of progress. The main change would include another agent. We accept this people job to select new records may show a quicker outcome in incomes through new records than publicizing on the TV which conveys a greater expense and more opportunity to see deals increment. This delegate may be able to get a greater number of records in a single year than they have in five years. One of the qualities of Janmar is its capacity to fulfill its retailers. It is essential that Janmar starts to aggressivelyâ attack the non DFW zone so as to arrive nearness and item known. With globalization it is exceptionally simple for an organization to be deserted.

The military’s rape percentage has gone up to at an alarming rate of 88 percent since 2007. Many victims in the military have been scared and frightened by the people that have done them so wrong and left them their feeling unwanted. People in the military are just as human as civilians in the real world. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Effects of Military Sexual Assault" essay for you Create order They deserve the same justice that someone else can get but since they are in the military, they are expected to just deal with it and live life on with no regrets. In the military people are getting assaulted sexually and as a result having severe issues with no justice. Women and men who are assaulted in the military do not receive any justice because they are never heard of when they try to speak about it because since they are in the military personal expect them to be strong. Men are more spoken upon in the court room rather than women. â€Å"Many who end up sideways of the law as defendants in the veterans court are men.† (Moore). The victims who are assaulted are usually never compensated to deal with their issues if they are still trying to cope with it. Men are less expected to come out about it because they think they will lose their masculinity. While with some females its more harmful because they are more emotionally driven to people, they have sex with or get taken advantage of. Military personnel that are victims of sexual assault can lead them to be psychologically disorder. This disorder not only effects them mentally, but also impacts them socially which can cause them having issues in the future. Issues such as flashbacks, depression, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), self-harm, and dissociation are all ways that sexual assault victims deal with if not cared or getting justice for what has happened. It is something that is never forgotten because of the traumatic experience it causes. With flashbacks, victims are disconnected with society because it is setting them back from facing true reality. The only way they cannot suffer from flashbacks is by recognizing things that make them feel safe. Sometimes this is hard because they suffer from PTSD. This is a disorder that effects one’s anxiety by reexperiencing events that previously happened to them. Sometimes people do not enjoy doing activity’s that they used to do because of this dis order. If not able to be treated, victims look to harming themselves because it’s the only thing to hide the pain they suffer. Self-harm is when people inflict physical harm on themselves, usually in private and without suicidal intentions. Some common ways self-harm is approached are biting, burning, cutting, hitting their body, pulling out hair, and scratching skin. Not only does this show someone’s pain but it also shows how they been affected by serious trauma. This could lead to medical problems, including sleeping and eating disorders. Throughout the United States more stories of sexual assault result in the way one lives their daily life. Many different eating disorders including anorexia, binge eating disorder, and bulimia are ways that people try to forget about their feelings. Sexual assault can change how a victim views or perceives themselves. Eating disorders typically cause someone to lose a substantial amount of weight. This starts to affect their physical health. Sleeping disorders also change the restoration of one’s physical and mental health. Some sleeping disorders include insomnia, nightmares, and sleep terrors. In order too fully â€Å"charge† someone’s body they must get at least 8 hours of sleep. Not getting enough sleep can affect your overall health and sometimes can lead to such conditions: obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Not only does this trauma lead to issues coping with society, but it also changes the health of one. Justice is one thing that can help people socially adjust to society. This may not take away the pain of the physical health disorders, but it does allow people seek more help and be vocal about their issues. If only people knew the pain and agony that victims of sexual assault experience and how it is not easily treated. The simplest way that it could be treated from the painful event is by them not being as overlooked as they are. This is not only an issue caused by the individuals in the justice system, but it is also caused by individuals who suffer from the assault. If the people spoke out on these events more, they could get more help. Not only was a crime committed, but someone’s life had been changed forever. In 1988 the department of defense conducted its first survey on sexual harassment in the military (Koons). Leading to, in 1991, the reported amount of assaults included 83 women and 7 men but only 50 perpetrators where fined or disciplined. Many stories are unheard of because it is not advocated through social media or any type of broadcast to the United States. Not showing people what truly happens can make the victims feel useless to the world which all leads back to the mental and physical problems they deal with. In conclusion, victims of sexual assault while either serving or veterans of the military deserve justice. They go through a lot of emotional and physical trauma that can be prevented when taken with action. People of the United States need to listen to this serious problem because not only do people feel threatened by the problem, but the people threated are the ones protecting the United States. Essay on George Washingtons Pesidency - 1178 Words

George Washingtons Presidency George Washington is regarded as a natural leader and the father of our country. He was the first president under the Constitution, not the first president of the United States. From the very beginning, he came into a job full of problems and a mile long to-do list. He had to set up the Judiciary Branch, deal with uprisings and conflicts between the natives and the western settlers, and try to keep together a nation that was falling apart. He created a group of advisors (the cabinet) to help him with certain issues. He had a few things on his mind at the time such as: stay out of a war, build up revenue to pay off Revolutionary War debt, and try to make peace with England. It had jurisdiction over all civil actions between states, or between a state and the United States. Also in the act it created thirteen Judicial Districts. Within these Judicial Districts were circuit courts and district courts. After finishing the Judicial Branch, Washington finally got time to create the Executive Branch. The first offices created were the Secretary of the State, (headed by Thomas Jefferson) the Secretary of the Treasury, (headed by Alexander Hamilton) the Secretary of War, (headed by Henry Knox) the Postmaster General, (headed by Samuel Osgood) and the Attorney General (headed by Edmund Randolph). These offices became the backbone for the Presidential Cabinet. On July 27, 1789, Washington signed a bill into law reauthorizing an Executive Department of Foreign Affairs headed by a Secretary of Foreign Affairs. Washington was the major player to the creation of the United States Government under the constitution. He did more in his first months in office than any other president so far. He was the best man for the job and the only man. There is no way that anyone can do as much for the government as Washington did so. He did a great job of setting up other courts around the

Qualitative Research for Instructional Technology Essay

Qualitative Research Qualitative Research Defined: The simplest way to define qualitative research is to say that it is a type of research which involves interpreting nonnumerical data. The class duration of each session is 2 hour and the timing of class varies according to the schedule of professor and institutional scheduling. In every class lecture is being conducted by our professor except on Wednesday, which includes additional class test for that particular day. Monday and Thursday are the two important days in my schedule as it includes the lecture portion and its revision. Besides this, on Wednesday I also required to attend for the class test. On this particular day my peers and I remains quite nervous and full of anxiety, for the scheduled test. On the other hand, this test helps to increase the competitive spirit in me and motivates me to study more and gain in-depth understanding of the subject matter. It is quite troublesome in my part to attend the class on Wednesday as well as to present for the test because of the late timing schedules. In b etween the mentioned schedules, there is a break of 15 minutes. This break is often worthy as it offers a small gap for relaxation. After the brainstorming lecture, I eagerly wait for this break to relax my mind; such as to feel fresh and energetic. Importantly, I have to regain my energy and prepare for attending another classroom session. All the 5 days I feel pretty excited and eagerly wait to attend my lecture session; because there I get to interact and spend time with my friends. Professors lecture helped a lot to boost up my knowledge regarding the particular subject matter. In the initial days my performance in the schedule tests was poor, but with a gradual increase in time, my performance also enhanced. My parents and professors are very much pleased with my improving performance in this subject, which motivates me to improve further and gain more in-depth information. I used to prepare myself before my scheduled class session through internet sources, textbooks and notes. Further, I get ready running notes during my lecture session and later on I organise all the notes in a synchronised manner at my home. For further assistance, I prefer to discuss and clarify my doubts with my peers and professor. Moreover, I do self- study at home to perform better in the class. Seldom, I have to face certain problems in attending my scheduled classes, which is attributed to transportation and timing of classes. I have to cover a long distance in order to reach my destination and after returning home, I feel exhausted. There are certain topics on this subject which I also feel difficult to understand. Hence, I feel our professor should organise doubt clearing classes during weekends. This will be helpful especially to offer a platform for interaction and opportunity to gain more in-depth knowledge of the subject matter.

Setting Vs Story - Dantes Inferno And Sartres No Exit Essays

Setting vs Story - Dante's Inferno and Sartre's No Exit Setting vs Story - Dante's Inferno and Sartre's No Exit This essay is on setting differences using the works of Dante's The Inferno and Jean Paul Sartre's No Exit. Adam looks about spotting all the important people that will influence the rest of his life. He takes a deep breath and prepares to make this his last and final addition to life. Quietly he draws back from the church as if to stop time, this moment may define him as a man. He turns to look at the priest as if to reply his answer, but suddenly he realizes the hand he is holding is as cold as death. Quickly he snaps back into reality recognizing he is not asking for his bride's hand in marriage, but burying her. Once again his mind tricked him into thinking that he was starting all over again with a new chance; however, as in life, sometimes there are no second chances. Dante's Inferno and Jean Paul Sartre's No Exit illustrate irony in setting in similar ways, such that there are no second chances in life. Both works take the readers into the minds of their authors where each author gives their interpretation of hell. Dante's and Jean Paul Sartre's works both have similar aspects of setting that are expressed in similar styles. Through symbolism, representation, and finite physical details each author establishes irony, yet also reinforces his theme. When Dante wrote The Inferno his mind thrived on the different levels of interpretation; likewise, Jean Paul Sartre's mind thrived on this, and he patterned No Exit after Dante's work. The symbolism expressed in Dante's Inferno correlates directly, in some cases, to the play written by Jean Paul Sartre, No Exit. Symbolism in both works cannot be defined by one level of thinking and neither can it be comprehended on one level. However, symbolism in relation to the setting of both works exhibits the nature of both writers to be very ironic in some cases. For example, throughout Dante's Inferno, Dante makes many direct references to the light and the heavens: "Therefore, if you win through this gloomy pass and climb again to see the heaven of stars when it rejoices to you . . ." (p. 145, l. 82 -5).These references, also made in No Exit, reveal the irony that none of the inhabitants of hell can ever see the light of God or, in Jean Paul Sartre's perspective, will always be reminded of the light and the choice they made: "Always broad daylight in my eyes- and in my head." (p.6) is another example of ironic symbolism, the mantle, found in No Exit and the evident references to heaven and the "true way" The Inferno. Additionally, "Yes, now's the moment; I'm looking at this thing on the mantlepiece, and I understand that I'm in hell."(p. 45): this direct quote from the play No Exit also captivates Dante's exact meanings that while you are in hell you will constantly be reminded of the path you chose not to take or the "true way" you chose not to follow. Finally the last illustration of symbolism in No Exit is the mirror and in Dante's Inferno the creatures of hell. The mirror, or the lack of, reveals the character's weaknesses towards themselves. The character of Estelle had six mirrors in her lifetime and now is sentenced in hell never to see herself again. While for the other characters, Inez and Gracin, the lack of mirrors represents something else. For Gracin he sees mirrors everywhere, and this shows the torture he goes through in hell, being constantly reminded of his sins. On the other hand, for Inez her mirror is seeing Estelle, her object of desire, and Gracin together forever, while also being constantly reminded of the sin, lust, she committed on earth. Dante's work is much more representative, and his creatures of hell disclose their symbolism in the guarding of the different circles of hell. For example the Minotaur, once a great beast who guarded many, is now guardian of circle seven and will forever be reminded of his sins on earth due to the fact his is the guardian of those who can never escape and his presence is a struggle of unending hell. The sins of hell in The Inferno and No Exit both exemplify the notion that the sin you committed on earth is also the punishment you shall receive in hell. This notion is the basis of the irony, that what you could not live without on earth is the

Tobacco Advertising Speech Tobacco companies are getting away with murder. Nearly 430 000 Americans die each year from smoking related diseases. An estimated 730 000 adolescent smokers will begin each year. (American Lung Association Fact Sheet. Online 1999) That should be an outrage to every American out there. Tobacco laws need to be stricter in this country and advertising of the product should be banned. Two major tobacco companies RJ Reynolds and Philip Morris spend 12 million dollars each day on tobacco advertising. These companies support the popular brands of cigarettes Camel and Marlboro. The two most highly sought after brands by teenage kids today. To say these companies don’t have an influence on our adolescents would be absurd. Free Essays on Tobacco In the year 1492, as every good schooling going American knows, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue. What everyone doesn’t know, however, is that his lesser known shipmate, Rodrigo de Jerez, brought back to Europe the first Tobacco leaves to be seen on the continent.(Facts,1) Seen puffing the dried leaves, A horrified Spanish Inquisition Imprisoned him for life on charges of being possessed by the devil.(Facts, 1) Strangely enough, that is exactly how the 400 years of dominant industrial tobacco abuse started, and it took it off faster than any other addictive substance ever.(Facts,2) The Cigarette itself, as before then, smoking was done in pipes and contraptions of that sort, was brought to the popular culture of Europe single-handedly by a man named Jean Nicot.(Facts,2) Nicots name was later borrowed by esteemed 19th-century scientists To name both the Plant, Nicotiana, and the active chemical, Nicotine.(Facts,1) More than ever before, tobacco gained popularity all over the world, after the European craze and prologue to the 19th century. The strange thing is, There is not one document of evidence to prove people were enjoying smoking through this era, yet there are countless amounts of documented quotes of people despising the â€Å"smelly weed.†(Facts,3) Although doctors, public authorities, Celebrities and role models alike have condemned the likes of tobacco in the body since its first discovery, the real cold hard facts did not show until the early 20th century.(Facts,4) In fact, until 1930, there was absolutely no conclusive data on the connection of Tobacco smoke and lung cancer.(Facts, 3) Jumping ahead a bit, Acclaimed writer of the 20th century Fletcher Knebel once commented â€Å"Smoking is not only the leading cause of premature death, it’s the leading cause of statistics.† Shockingly put, yet right in every disturbing sense, there are now 70,000 plus articles in print to prove how right he really is. ... Free Essays on Tobacco Tobacco Advertising Tobacco Advertising and its dangerous effects on young people. Everyday 3,000 children start smoking, most them between the ages of 10 and 18. These kids account for 90 percent of all new smokers. In fact, 90 percent of all adult smokers said that they first lit up as teenagers (Roberts). These statistics clearly show that young people are the prime target in the tobacco wars. The cigarette manufacturers may deny it, but advertising and promotion play a vital part in making these facts a reality (Roberts). The kings of these media ploys are Marlboro and Camel. Marlboro uses a fictional western character called The Marlboro Man, while Camel uses Joe Camel, a high-rolling, swinging cartoon character. Joe Camel, the "smooth character" from R.J. Reynolds, who is shown as a dromedary with complete style has been attacked by many Tobacco-Free Kids organizations as a major influence on the children of America. Dr. Lonnie Bristow, AMA (American Medical Association) spokesman, remarks that "to kids, cute cartoon characters mean that the product is harmless, but cigarettes are not harmless. They have to know that their ads are influencing the youth under 18 to begin smoking"(Breo). Researchers at the Medical College of Georgia report that almost as many 6-year olds recognize Joe Camel as know Mickey Mouse (Breo). That is very shocking information for any parent to hear. The industry denies that these symbols target people under 21 and claim that their advertising goal is simply to promote brand switching and loyalty. Many people disagree with this statement such as Illinois Rep. Richard Durbin who states " If we can reduce the number of young smokers, the tobacco companies will be in trouble and they know it "(Roberts). So what do the tobacco companies do to keep their industry alive and well? Seemingly, they go toward a market that is not fully aware of the harm that cigarettes are capable of. U.S. News recentl...

Effective team performance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words - 1

Effective team performance - Essay Example This assignment will help an individual apply accurate concepts learnt about teamwork and involve them in handling various issues that will arise in the field when teamwork will be required. The assignment involves a reflection analysis of experiences received during a team work activity (Christopher, 2001, pp.23-35). Our space ship just crash-landed on the moon and been destroyed leaving us with a few items for use. We are required to locate a mother ship 200 miles away. Among the items left, we are expected to select items that will be of critical importance to us and work together as a team to reach the mother ship. The purpose of this assignment is to give a reflective analysis of how through effective team performance and cooperation we were able to achieve our mission (Hackman, 1987, pp.45-46). Every member of a team needs to understand the prevailing situation and mission of the team. Defining and appreciating the situation will be necessary to determine key areas to be undertaken. Managing Hospitality Operations - Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Managing Hospitality Operations - - Essay Example High-quality service results in customer satisfaction which in turn stimulates the intention to return, and encourages recommendations. Customer satisfaction also increases profitability, market share and return on investment (Shishavi, 2007). Every interaction in the hospitality sector is a service and interaction takes place at various levels. Service is dependent on various factors and each of these factors is individually and collectively responsible for efficient delivery of service. The employees, the managers, the technology and innovative ideas along and the consumers themselves can help meet the challenge of service delivery. The environment too has an impact on service quality and customer delight is used as a measure of customer satisfaction. Service quality perception has also been used a driver of customer retention. Hence, this paper will focus on the various factors responsible for service quality in the hospitality sector. It would first discuss SERVQUAL in the hospitality sector. Firms have to move from satisfaction to delight in order to obtain loyal customers and maintain profitable operations (Torres & Kline, 2006). â€Å"Customer delight involves going beyond satisfaction to delivering what can be best described as a pleasurable experience for the client† (Patterson cited by Torres & Kilne). This indicates that delight has a stronger emption and a different physiological state than satisfaction. Customer satisfaction is based on customer expectation whereas delight exceeds expectations. Customers can be delighted without being surprised. Delighted customers have greater appreciation for the firm and its services. Loss of a single customer can mean losses running into thousands and hence delight has been considered important to retain loyal customers. One loyal customer also translates into recommended customers. Customer delight can be used as a

Illustrative Essay Essay Example for Free

Illustrative Essay Essay In society today we look at magazines and movies and strive to be just like the people we see. The guys in these magazines have six packs and arms with muscles the size of Mt. Everest. And the girls are all size double zeros with no meat anywhere on their bodies. A lot of Americans work out and diet to accomplish the goal of having these body types, but some go to drastic measures to get it. Many eating disorders and their side effects are taking over the lives of Americans every day. Anorexia Nervosa is the number one eating disorder in America. One in every one hundred woman suffers from this disorder. Anorexia is where you deprive your body from any food. This can create many problems with the body. In the beginning, minor problems can occur like fatigue, dizzy spells, and weakness. But later on, you can do so much as to give yourself certain heart diseases and some women even lose their menstrual cycles. Anorexia has controlled the lives of many celebrities like Karen Carpenter (who actually died from it), Mary Kate Olsen, and Tara Reid. Another eating disorder wide spread through the United States in Bulimia. Three in every one hundred woman suffer or have suffered from Bulimia. This disorder is where you still eat, but you cause yourself to vomit. Statistics show that many women will turn to this disease because it is â€Å"less threatening† than anorexia. Bulimia can cause slight abdominal pain and bloating. Long term side effects of this disorder can be broken blood vessels in your eyes, rotting of your teeth, and even some types of colon and throat cancers. The last eating disorder that is an issue in the USA is obesity. Many people don’t think obesity is an eating disorder, but in fact it is. Everyone’s standard of obesity is obviously ifferent, but on a national scale PBS says that seventy three percent of Americans are overweight or obese. Obesity can cause diabetes, strokes, heart attacks, and high blood pressure which are all life threatening problems. In conclusion, many eating problems are taking over America. There are healthier ways to get the body image you want. Don’t put your body at risk just to be what society wa nts you to be. You should be healthy, but you should become healthy, in a healthy manner. If you or anyone you know is struggling from an eating disorder, you should seek help as soon as possible.

Drugs Essay -- essays research papers

Drugs   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Drugs have always been a big part of our society. Many issues arise with whether or not some of them should be legalized for medication purposes or if they all should just be kept as illegal. Drugs are a very interesting topic to learn about and discuss. There is so many things that people don’t know and maybe they should. Not everyone is aware of all the risks or what can happen to you if you get caught with them. If you’re ready to hear about five illegal drugs, then I’m ready to share what I have found out about them.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Marijuana, also known as: â€Å"cannabis, pot, weed, herb, green, Mary Jane, joints, bong toke, and reefer† (Drug Use, www.druguse.com/definitions.html), is probably one of the most controversial drugs. People don’t know if they want to legalize it to help cancer patients or if they want to keep it illegal so that it doesn't get abused by other people. Marijuana is classified as a â€Å"class B drug. It is illegal to have, sell, or give away. The maximum sentences you can receive in a magistrates court is 3 months in jail and a $500 fine† (Illegal, www.impington.cambs.sch.uk/work/illegal.html). Also if you are caught you will have a record and it will keep you from getting jobs like a teacher and working in a bank, so watch out.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Most of the time marijuana is smoked. The users like to mix it with tobacco and roll it into a cigarette. After smoking it, it will leave a sweet herbal smell behind, which is hard to describe but easily recognizable (Illegal, www.impington.cambs.sch.uk/work/illegal.html). Not only can marijuana be smoked it can also be eaten or inhaled. Any way you do it you still get the same effects.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The only things that will change the effects you will receive are according to your mood or the atmosphere in which it is smoked. A lot of the people will become relaxed, but then you have those who will become very giggly. Smoking marijuana can also cause you to get the munchies, so you need to be prepared to eat just about anything. Many times the people who smoke marijuana become lazy and seem to put things off; they also get a loss in memory. The biggest danger comes from the actual smoking. â€Å"Like tobacco, marijuana has a high tar factor, so smoking it can cause bronchitis and cancer† (Illegal, www.impington.cambs... ...r writhe on the floor, terrorized by grisly visions, or imagine himself so indestructible that he walks into a moving car† (Modell and Lansing, 42). When on LSD many people experience a â€Å"bad trip†. When having a trip you can become very frightened and have panic attacks and feel anxious. Sometimes they forget it is the drug and they then think that they are going mad. â€Å"People don't usually get dependent on LSD, but someone who does use too much too often can feel out of touch with the real world† (Illegal, www.impington.cambs.sch.uk/work/illegal.html).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  So, like I stated before, drugs are a very interesting topic to learn about. I think that anyone that is taking drugs or considering using drugs should really read up about them and I know that they might just change their mind about what they are doing. Drugs are very dangerous and if you want live your life being addicted to them and ruining your body then go right ahead and do that. Damaging my brain and my liver just doesn’t sound very cool to me. All I can say is never do drugs, unless you want to live a life that will always be effected by the drugs you are taking.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚

Political Philosophy and National Integration Essay

1. Central Quotation â€Å"National integration is partly a by-product of other social and economic developments, partly the result of deliberate government policies.† (Birch, 36) 2. Argument In this text Birch gives a historical overview of national integration process. He discusses different attitudes towards assimilation of minorities that existed in North America and Europe. Before 1960s that it was current believe that national integration could be challenged by the existence of different ethnic groups within the borders of the country and assimilation was desirable. After 1960 however, this attitudes has changed in favour of social pluralism. Birch also presents patterns, which describes common practices of national integration. 3. Question The question raised in this text is â€Å"Whether the process of national integration must be accompanied by wholly or partial assimilation of minorities?† Birch describes both negative and positive effects, which social, economic and political integration of minor ethnic and cultural groups could have on building a sense of nationhood. His argumentation is based on contradictory assertions. One argument is in favour of social homogeneity i.e. stresses the importance of common language and feeling of unity among people for development of democratic institutions. In the same time author mention several scientific works that question the assumption that further integration is required for establishment of representative democracy. 4. Experiential Connection Even thou I grew up in Sweden, I have a lot of friends with different ethnic origin who lives there, mostly 1st or 2nd generation immigrants. All of them had a chance, upon their own will to learn Swedish free of charge as soon as they arrived. That was the part of integration programme established by government in order to facilitate immigration process. That makes it easier for immigrants to interact with local citizens, get the jobs and thus contribute to social, political and economic development of the country. 5. Textual Connection. Birch’s argumentation is quite similar to Will Kymlicka’sagrument in the text â€Å"Western political theory and ethnic relations in eastern Europe†. As well as Birch, Kymlicka stresses that attitudes toward ethnic minorities among democratic liberals in West had changed since 1960 and multiculturalism become more acceptable (Kymlicka, s. 33). Kymlicka focuses on different ethnic groups and describes assimilation attempts made by governments towards these groups. He also emphasizes the importance of different governmental policies that determines integration process (Kymlicka, s. 42). 6. Implications. This text analyses the different ways in which minor groups can be merged into national societies and poses the question of whether national integration is a positive or a negative process. This question must be answered by citizens and representative governments in every country before there will be taken any further action toward national integration or disintegration. I think government have to consider prior experience of integration of minorities in different countries to choose appropriated policies for the particular county. This can be done throughout case studies and with help of patterns of integration drawn up by theorists and scientists.

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh - 1667 Words

â€Å"He who has seen everything, I will make known to the lands† (1). An epic beginning to an epic story. The Epic of Gilgamesh was not composed to be subtle. It was written to immortalize the actions, and myths, of one man’s life. It’s extravagance was designed to grab the attention of listeners, and captivate audiences. The first tablet of the epic serves to establish the story and its characters, as well as bring gabbing listener’s attention. Originally, this piece was composed to be told aloud by a bard. This style, as well as the juxtaposition of extravagant, lengthy descriptions of Gilgamesh, next to brief, plain discussion of Enkidu work to impress upon listeners Gilgamesh’s magnificence. THE USE OF THE BARD The epic opens with an†¦show more content†¦Every time the same action or event is described, the exact same phrases are used. This technique is used in the first tablet when describing Gilgamesh’s dream about Enkidu. He first describes the dream to his mother, and she in turn says it back to him, using the exact same wording and a very similar line structure, changing only the pronouns from first person to second person prior to interpreting it. Gilgamesh then describes another dream to her and she again tells the dream back to him before interpreting it. This was common in oral poetry for multiple reasons. The primary purpose was to make stories such as these easier for the speaker to memorize. If a dream is described, and then a character tells people about the dream in separate incidents, having to remember each of the various ways the dream was described would become very difficult, and considering bards would often have entire epics memorized, having to remember multiple tellings of the same dream would have been pointlessly tedious and too difficult. These sort of stock pieces of a story also gave speakers time to remember what their next portion of the story was. Lastly, these sections served to create suspense and drama in the story. By repeating the exact same lines multiple times, speakers forced listeners to wait for the answer to the dream or the end of the journey as the suspense built. If you are being told the story by someone else,
